Everything in the physical world is made up of vibrational energy. The thoughts we think and the words we speak create vibrations that ripple out into the universal energy field. According to Shawn Achor in The Happiness Advantage, when we present ourselves from a positive state, every outcome in life improves.
Think about that for a moment.
If being positive can improve our relationships, our work, our health, and our overall happiness, isn't it worth making the effort? For me, the answer is a definite yes. But positivity doesn't always come naturally. Most of us were raised in a world that tends to focus on problems rather than possibilities. That's why we must become intentional about our thoughts and our words.
The good news is that positivity is always available. Sometimes we simply need to shift our focus to find it.
One of the easiest ways to begin is by paying attention to our everyday responses. Consider how many times each day someone asks, "How are you?"
What is your usual answer?
If you respond with "Okay" or "Good," that's fairly neutral. If your response is "Not too bad"—which I hear quite often—that actually carries a negative vibration. But what if you chose a more uplifting response?
Try saying:
"Awesome!"
"Fantastic!"
"Great!"
"Better than ever!"
Say those words out loud and notice how they feel. Compare "good" to "great." You can hear and feel the difference immediately.
The same principle applies to how we describe our experiences.
For example, after a frustrating commute, many people say, "Traffic was awful today!" While that may be true, consider reframing it as, "I'm so grateful to be out of that traffic."
The situation hasn't changed, but the energy behind your words has. One statement focuses on frustration; the other focuses on gratitude.
I learned this lesson years ago when I was a sales manager at a busy dealership. I worked long hours and spent most of my day in high heels. By the time I got home, I would kick off my shoes and announce, "Oh, my aching feet!"
One day, I realized that while my statement was true, it wasn't helping me feel any better. So I changed my words.
Instead, I began saying, "Oh, it feels so good to take these shoes off!"
The circumstances were exactly the same, but the vibration was completely different. Rather than focusing on pain, I shifted my attention to relief and gratitude.
Words carry energy. They influence our emotions, our mindset, and ultimately the experiences we create. Small changes in the way we speak can create meaningful shifts in how we feel and how we show up in the world.
Today, I invite you to listen closely to your words. Notice how you answer simple questions. Pay attention to how you describe your day, your challenges, and your experiences.
Then ask yourself:
Are my words lowering my vibration—or lifting it?
A few intentional changes may be all it takes to transform your energy, elevate your mindset, and create a happier, more positive life.
